Gelmis gecmis en iyi rock gruplarindan biridir. Esasinda ne Rock demek ne de grub demek dogru olur ama daha kolay anlatmak icin boyle kaliplar kullanmak zorundayim.

Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd'un ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' albumunun de yapimcisi olan (producer) Alan Parson ile soz yazari Eric Woolfson tarafindan ortaya cikar.

Ilk olarak Eric Woolfson Alan Parson ile, Edgar Allan Poe'nun siirlerini iceren bir kayit calismasi yapmak ister ama sonradan bu fikir projeye donusur cunku cesitli muzisyenleri bir araya getirek bir organizasyon soz konusudur. Calgicisindan sarkicisina, bestekarlardan, kompozitorler, akillica dusunulup yazilmis sozler, yaklasimlar, acilar vs vs. Calismalarin sonunda '''Tales of Mystery and Imagination'' albumu cikar. Ama normal bir grubu olusturan sabit elemanlar yani on vokalist gibi bas solistler yoktur. Albumu tanimlamak icin yaptiklari isin ismini verirler o da Proje yani ''The Project''.

Hehangi bir on ya da asil elemanlar olmadigi icin cikan her albumde yaptiklari muzik turune ''orchestral rock'' olarak tanimlanmaya baslanir. Rock'n roll muzigin parcasi olan bas, drum, akustik-elektro gitarlar, klavye ile orkestra yani kemanlar, piyanolar, flutler, saksofonlar gibi calgilarla cesitli ve farkli denemeler karisinca bence ''orchestral rock'' kalibi olayi cok iyi tanimliyor.

Sonra projeler devam eder yani ''The Project'' albumleri... Her calisma bir konudan olusur ve muzikle o konuya konsantire olunur. Ik albumde Edgar Alan Poe ile baslanir. Sonra ''I Robot'' ile Isaac Asimov'la. Ve ''Pyramid'' albumu ki eskilerin harikalarini incelerler. ''Eve'' tabi ki kadini... ''Turn of a Friendly Card'' kumar gibi riskli oyunlari... VEEE ''Gaudi'' unlu ispanyol sanatci Antonio Gaudi. Diger ''Eye In The Sky'', ''Ammonia Avenue'', ''Vulture Culture'' ve ''Stereotomy'' isimli albumleri ise adlari ustunde genel konulari kapsar...

1987 yilinda son proje olarak nitlendirilien ''Gaudi'' sunulduktan sonra Eric Woolfson ile Alan Parson ayrilir. Yine de Alan ''Try Anything Once'', ''On Air'' ve ''The Time Machine'' adlarinda uc tane daha album (proje demeyorum album) cikartmayi basarir.

Adlandirmakta gucluk cektigimden sadece efsane deyip noktayi koyayayim...

Esas 'One Second'' albumune bayilirim, belki Daha onceki albumleri kadar kaliteli bir calisma degildi ama ''One Second'' parcasiyla olsun ve ozellikle ''Say Just Words'''un o piyanoyla girisi ve tirmanisi ile hem dinleyini hem de tum albumu alip goturuyor.

Gothic Metal turu mu degil mi diye zamaninda baya arkadaslarla tartisirdim ve hep sonunda gothic metalin babalarindan oldugu soylenir. Esasinda ilk Gothic Metal'in babalari Doom Metal yapan Celtic Frost idi. Evet biraz supriz olacak ama Paradise Lost'un yaptigi sadece Doom Metal turune kadin sesi ekleyerek piyasaya tasimasidir ayni Theatre of Tragedy gibi. Fakat zaten Celtic Frost'un 1987 cikardigi ''Into The Pandemonium'' albumunde kadin sesi kullanilmisti. Yine de bana gore esas Gothic temasi Sister Of Mercy islenmistir...

Neyse baya teknik konulara giriyor. Zaten Paradise Lost sonradan daha da yumusayarak farkli turlerde albumler yaparak tamamen Gothic Metal turunden de uzaklasti. Buyuk bir riskti ama piyasa tarafindan baya begenildi...
