Pop şarkıcısı Dido Armstrong 25 Aralık 1971’de Londra’da doğdu. Beş yaşına geldiğinde flüt çalarak müziğe ilk adımını attı. Bunun için ceza almayan Dido altı yaşında Londra’daki Guildhall Müzik Okulu’na başladı. 10 yaşına geldiğinde dahi denebilecek bir biçimde piano ve keman çalıyordu ve ayrıca flütte de çok iyiydi.
Gençlik yılları boyunca The Clash’ dan Gregory Isaac'a, Duran Duran’a kadar erkek kardeşinin çeşitli CD’lerini aşırırken bir yandan da klasik müzik topluluğuyla İngiltere’de turlara çıkıyordu. 16 yaşına geldiğinde artık tam bir Ella Fitzgerald hayranıydı. Sadece dinleyici olmaktan çıkıp bu tür müzik yapmaya karar vermesi çok uzun sürmedi. Önceleri Londra’daki çeşitli gruplarda şarkı söyledi. Bunlardan en önemlisi Dido’nun erkek kardeşi Rollo’nun da elemanı olduğu trip-hop tarzı müzik yapan Faithless grubuydu. Rollo, Dido’ya çalışmakta olduğu işinden ayrılamamasını söyledi. Dido onu dinlemedi ve yoluna devam etti. Faithless’la çalarken kendi demolarını da kaydediyordu. Faithless’in beş milyonun üzerinde satan Reverence adlı ilk albümünde yer aldı. Bu daha sonraki solo çalışmaları için iyi bir referanstı. Sonraki iki yıl boyunca Faithless’la turneye çıktı. Bu klasik müzikle uğraştığı günlerden çok farklıydı. Londra’ya her dönüşünde kendi demolarının kaydına devam etti.
Dido Faithless’in son albümü 8pm’de biri 'My Lover's Gone' olmak üzere iki şarkısıyla yer aldı. 1997’de bu şarkıların demolarını duyan Arista Records Dido’yu Clive Davis ile görüşmesi için çağırdı. Görüşme başarılıydı. Dido onun için şarkı söylerken Clive da bazı geri vokallerde ona yardım etti. Dido Arista Records ile anlaştı. İlk albümü No Angel 1999 yılında piyasaya çıktı. Albüm Amerika’da bir milyona yakın sattı. 'Here With Me' parçası Roswell dizisinde, 'Thank You' parçası da Sliding Doors filminde yer aldı. Dido’nun ismi rapçi Eminem’in dünya çapında hit olan Stan parçası için Thank You'nun bir kısmını kullanmasıyla sıkça duyulmaya başlandı. ve tabi ardında uzun zaman geçmesine rağmen life for rent çıktı ilk klip ve single white flag oldu ve ardındanda life for rent bu albüyle birçok ödül aldı en iyi ingiliz kadın şarkıcı ve en iyi çıkış yapan kadın şarkıcı ödüllerini aldı 2004de ve ardındanda singlar çıkardı en son sand in my shoes çıktı........
