That day in blue September,
Under a quiet young plum tree,
I held it, silent white love,
It's like a holy dream on my arm.
And above us in the beautiful summer sky,
There was a cloud I already saw,
It was so white and so high,
And when I looked up it wasn't there.
Many, many months since then,
They passed silently, slipped down,
All those plum trees are gone,
And if she asks me what is love,
I'm telling you: I can't remember,
But still, believe me, I know what you mean.
But I still can't quite remember your face
Alone: I kissed her back then, I know.
And I forgot this kiss a long time ago
If it wasn't for the cloud,
I remember her today and always will,
It was very white and was coming from above.
Maybe even though the plum trees are in bloom,
And that woman could now have seven children,
But that cloud only opened for a few minutes,
And when I looked up, it was already lost in the wind.
